If a federal Stafford or federal PLUS loan borrower dies or becomes totally and permanently disabled, the debt owed on the federal student loan(s) will be cancelled. Federal student loan debt can also be cancelled (either a portion or full cancellation) for other reasons, such as:

• An unpaid refund from your school
• False loan certification
• Your school closes
• Teacher loan forgiveness
• Child care provider
