To defer repayment of your loan(s) due to teacher shortage, you must be:

• Teaching in a designated teacher shortage area

To qualify, you must:

• Teach full-time in a public or nonprofit private elementary or secondary school in a geographic region, grade level, academic, instructional, subject matter, or discipline classified shortage area as defined by the U.S. Department of Education. (You may contact your Chief School Administrator, Chief State School Officer, or your guarantor for a list of your state's shortage areas.)
