Southwest's Educational Advantage® Program allows you to customize your student lending in ways that most benefits you and your students.
The Educational Advantage® Program offers the following benefits:
- A specialized program for your graduate and professional students
- Ensures loan funding for your students
- An investment return that allows you to provide additional assistance to your students through scholarships and other programs
- Unique borrower benefits to your students to encourage and reward prompt loan repayment
- An open system that allows you to pick and choose services under the program that best suits your needs
- A turnkey model without any overhead requirements. YOU reap the benefits without additional administrative burden.
How does the program work?
The Educational Advantage® Program is a specialized program developed by Southwest Student Services Corporation (Southwest) for educational institutions offering graduate and professional degree programs. Under the program, you serve as a participating lender in the Federal Family Educational Loan Program (FFELP). The program allows you to ensure the availability of educational loan funds for the graduate and professional student population and, at the same time, earn an investment return as a result of providing assistance to your students.
Is it complicated?
Southwest's Educational Advantage® Program operates as an open program, as opposed to the systems offered by other participants. Southwest allows you to choose from a number of services that will best meet your needs and the needs of your students. The Educational Advantage® Program allows you to control as much of the program as you like to best serve the needs of your students.
Southwest supports a complete turnkey model, which allows you to reap the benefits of the School as Lender model without adding any overhead requirements. As a entity, Southwest is able to provide services at costs that are lower than other commercial sources.
What's involved?
In any School as Lender model, there are several key components that can be contracted out for service. These primary functions include:
- Loan Origination and Disbursement
- Guarantee
- Servicing
- Forward Purchase
- Line of Credit
- Administration
Southwest is a national service provider. We have the capability to provide all of your needs under one roof, unlike other providers who use outside entities to fund and then purchase and service the loans they are administering on your behalf. At Southwest, we can fund, originate, service, purchase, and administer the loans without them ever being transferred or purchased by another entity. Your students will have one place to call for the life of their loan(s).
Will my process change?
At Southwest, we understand that you have unique origination processing needs and that one size does not fit all. Therefore, Southwest has partnered with over 20 guarantors, third-party disbursing agents, and third-party servicers, allowing us to provide you with a variety of processing scenarios. In addition, Southwest utilizes its own in-house loan origination system called Aid Delivery System (ADS).
ADS gives Southwest the ability to process FFELP loans, alternative loans, and many other types of aid programs with great flexibility. Other ADS benefits include its real-time processing, customization, and automated loan processing. An added benefit to you is Southwest's workflow application processing, which enables the loan origination process to be virtually paperless. When the Master Promissory Notes or other critical documents arrive at Southwest, the documents are immediately optically imaged. Southwest provides same day application processing and less than a 24-hour turnaround time.
