- Ask for letters of recommendation from your teachers, guidance counselors and employers.
- Meet with admissions representatives of your top college choices that visit your high school.
- Request admission and financial aid applications from your top college choices.
- Make a list of the dates for completing and submitting forms and APPLY EARLY.
- Arrange visits to the schools you are considering and schedule admission interviews (if required).
- Attend special programs such as financial aid workshops.
- Apply for your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Personal Identification Number (PIN) at www.pin.ed.gov

- Complete the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, after January 1st.
- Ask your high school to forward a copy of your transcript, which includes your first semester senior year grades, to the schools to which you have applied.
- Submit additional documentation and financial aid forms as soon as they are requested by the schools to which you have applied.
- Watch for college acceptance letters and financial aid award letters.
- Determine which school you will attend and send in your deposit.
- Notify the other colleges that you will not be attending.
- Review your financial aid award letter(s) and be sure that you understand the terms and conditions that accompany each kind of aid. Indicate which awards you wish to accept, then sign and return your financial aid award letter to the school.
- If you accept a federal student loan (Subsidized Stafford, Unsubsidized Stafford or PLUS), follow the application instructions provided by your school's Financial Aid Office or call them with your questions.
- Watch for important deadlines (housing, financial aid, freshman orientation, etc.) at your chosen school and return forms promptly.
