| Capitalization of Interest |

Addition of unpaid interest to the principal balance of a loan which increases the total outstanding balance due. This occurs at the end of a forbearance on subsidized loans and at the end of a deferment, a forbearance, or grace period on unsubsidized loans.

| Co-Maker |
 |
One of two individuals who are joint borrowers on a PLUS, consolidation, or alternative loan. The co-maker is jointly and severally liable for repayment of the loan.

A two-year traditional school, offering programs leading to an Associate of Arts degree. These typically offer many non-credit and vocational courses. Also called "junior college".

| Cooperative Work-Study Education |
 |
A program in which the student alternates between full-time college study and full-time paid employment related to the student's area of study. Under this plan, a bachelor's degree often requires five years to complete.

| Cost of Attendance (COA) |
 |
The total cost of attending a post-secondary institution for one academic year. The student's budget usually includes tuition, fees, room, board, supplies, transportation, and personal expenses.

A method, based on statistical analysis of applicant characteristics, through which lenders determine the applicant's qualification for credit.

 |
An individual with no or little negative credit history per the criteria established by the lender.
